When the briefs were put out, and I read through them, I couldn't help but notice how many times the words 'climate change' and 'gas emissions' were used. Therefore, I had to further investigate that side of the brief. Through my research, I discovered that cars pollute the air in different ways. Out of three main forms of pollution, namely air, ground and water, cars pollute in all three forms, causing serious environmental issues and problems, including global warming as the exhaust of the car releases almost all of the chemical compounds that affect our climate. I decided to run an online survey on my personal twitter account, to see how many cars are owned by an average lebanese household, and I discovered that out of 200 people who completed the survey 76% had more than 2 cars per household with 18% of them having more than 4! This is why I decided to send a message to Lebanese people, and shed a light on the number of cars they are using, as well as showing how cars are one of the main reasons behind global warming. And since my audience is Lebanese people, we love a good ol' arabic pun. I decided to use a double meaning pun, 'أشكمان تعمل.' The pun is not meant to make fun of the gravity of the problem, however, it will get stuck in the mind of Lebanese people, and the double meaning behind it is "car exhaust" (أشكمان) and "What the hell are you doing" (أشكمان تعمل) at once. That perfectly sums up the fact that we as beings ARE responsible and SHOULD be doing something, while we currently are not. The phrase used is quite vernacular. Therefore, I wanted the style used to be very grungy looking, very street-style. The car exhaust that is used is rusty and old, to also metaphorically portray what its consequence is on the environment, making it disgusting and rusted.
