The vast majority of so-called Migrants are now Climate Refugees, forced to flee due to changes in their environment that make life untenable. I chose to focus on drought, which is especially harsh in Africa, and with terrible consequences.
A parched map of Africa becomes the central part of a bare footprint of a refugee traversing the scorched land – barefoot because the principal victims here are the poorest of the poor. The footprint is black and brown evoking drought, and is set in dramatic contrast to the color blue, an allusion to water.
