About me
Muneera U. Spence graduated with her MFA from Yale University in Graphic Design, and has taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the field at university level for 26 years. She is presently the Chair of the Department of Graphic Design at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar and has been for seven years. She leads a Graphic Design team of nine faculty in a contextualized BFA degree program. She has participated in and led conference development and presentations, including Tasmeem Doha 2011: SYNAPSE: Designer as Link (tasmeemdoha.com), and Icograda Design Week: Mousharaka: Collaboration in 2009 (mousharaka.com), and was moderator for Tasmeem 2007 and 2008. She was the Co-Founder and Co-Host for a Qatar Foundation Radio program: Design Edition and is currently Co-Director of the MEDEA: Middle East Design Educators Association.
Her interest lies in team generative methodologies, collaborative teaching and learning dynamics especially pertaining to design education in the international context. Her interest in international development/design projects have manifested in Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine and now in Qatar.
