About me
Giancarlo Iliprandi is one of the most important living figures in
Italian graphic design. He is well known for his studies on typographic composition and lettering as well as for the typographic fonts he has designed.
After studying medicine and fine arts, he eventually started to work as a graphic designer when in his thirties. In 1953 he opened his own design studio and in 1961 he became a member of ADI (Italy's most important industrial design association) member. He would later become president of the same association. In 1961 he also started teaching at Società Umanitaria. In 1967 he became part of the group of Milanese designers that worked for influential Nebbiolo type foundry. He is well known for his studies on typographic composition and lettering as well as for the typographic fonts he has designed. In 1993 he founded his second design studio Iliprandi Associati.
Iliprandi is a permanent member of Icograda's Presidents Forum, a
honorary member of AIAP (Italian's graphic design association) and
ADI. During his career his work has been recognized with a number of awards, including the Grand Prize of XIII Milan's Triennale exhibition and three ADI Compasso d'Oro awards. In 2003 Politecnico University gave him a Honoris Causa degree in Industrial Design.
He currently teaches at the Design Faculty of Milan's Politecnico
University.
