Their is ongoing stigma about banning or limiting LGBT donating blood in the US and other countries, especially gay men since the rise in the AIDS and HIV in the 80s and 90s. Screening for blood, safe sex awareness and prevention, and testing have improved, but these restrictions are still in place due to discrimination, fears, and stereotypes. After the Orlando, Florida tragedy, many in that community could not donate their blood to their friends who were injured. The main message is that we are "one blood" regardless of one's sexual orientation. We all bleed red.
