The Egyptian activist Patrick Zaki has been imprisoned for expressing opinions against the government of his country of origin while studying in Italy. Unfortunately, he is not the only one. As the UN experts report, Egypt uses special terror courts to silence dissent and divergent voices, especially during the pandemic. Being a political prisoner in Egypt means risking the death penalty. These actions can persuade the population to not interfere with the government: other countries should take a position and establish sanctions against similar regimes instead of signing more deals.
