About me
Yamina Benguigui, réalisatrice et productrice française d'origine algérienne, consacre son travail de cinéaste engagée, à l'exploration de la part humaine de l'immigration. Elle croit au pouvoir de l'image pour faire évoluer les mentalités et bousculer les préjugés.
Ses films (Femmes d'islam, Mémoires d'immigrés, Inch'Allah Dimanche, Le plafond de verre, 9/3, Mémoire d'un territoire, Aïcha, etc.) témoignent de son engagement sociétal. Elle défriche les questions liées à l'enracinement des populations issues de l'immigration pour s'arrimer dans la société d'accueil afin de se projeter ensemble dans le futur : le devoir de mémoire, la place des femmes musulmanes dans les sociétés occidentales, les discriminations liées à l'histoire coloniale.
Depuis le 28 mars 2008, elle prolonge son engagement citoyen en tant qu'adjointe au Maire de Paris en charge des droits de l'homme et de la lutte contre les discriminations.
Pour elle, le travail de l'élue est indissociable du travail de réalisatrice : ses films sont des outils qui lui permettent d'ouvrir la parole et de débattre de tous les tabous partout où l'exige la défense de l'égalité, de la liberté et des droits de l'homme.
Lutte contre les discriminations, égalité des chances et changement des représentations sont les trois grands axes de sa mission à la Mairie, mission qu'elle remplit avec le souci constant de décoloniser les imaginaires et de changer de regard sur l'autre.
